BFWG is a membership organisation with both independent members and members in local associations. Members have degrees or other equivalent qualifications but come from all nationalities, disciplines and work in all professions – or in none.

BFWG has been active since 1907
         promoting women’s opportunities in education and public life
         fostering local, national and international friendship
         improving the lives of women and girls worldwide.

BFWG works through local associations, regional groups, the national Federation and internationally through the International Federation of University Women (IFUW) and University Women of Europe (UWE).

Founded in 1907, BFWG promotes women's opportunities in education and public life. BFWG's Scholarship Fund assists women in the final year of studying for a PhD (e-mail This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it ). A partner of the Women's National Commission (WNC) and a member of the Six-O Group of the largest women's organisations, BFWG is a voice for women graduates in Britain. IFUW has consultative status with UN agencies, and UWE with the Council of Europe.
